The Indie Music Stream Guide is an aggragate view of upcoming live streams on a select set of YouTube channels. Like a Guide Channel on a Cable TV or Smart TV, it displays what shows are coming up next. Decide what you watch, discover new music, suggest more channels to add to the aggregate. Be a source of new music to share our message.

IMSG frequently asked questions

The IMSG is a collection of scheduled upcoming Live Streams from a list of curated YouTube channels that are centered around Indie music. These streams are presenting in order of soonest to go live to the oldest. Ones that are currently Live are displayed at the top. Simply click on the thumbnail and you will be taken to the live stream or upcoming stream page.
There is a search filter that can help you quickly find streams by their channel name or title. The search does not include description text or tags.
The collection does not include scheduled premiere videos. They are not considered live content although they do have a chat box. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Some channels go live without making a scheduled event, they will appear in the Live section when detected but without being scheduled it may appear many minutes after it starts.
To see what channels are part of the curated list use the channels link at the top of the app. It will list all of the channels included and you can filter by using the search box
Clicking the channel will take you to the YouTube Channel page. I suggest you subscribe to the channels you frequest and give your support. If there is a channel that you think should be part of this list please email me at the address at the bottom of the page. See the channel details for requirements for being a channel member of this list.

IMSG only gathers public information to create the stream list. There is no privacy or security information needed. Though we do honor a channel owners wishes, we will remove them if asked.
Requirements for a channel:
  • Must be about Indie music. Interviews, video shows, performances of indie music, music production, apps, instruments and tools, podcasts... As long as its about new original indie music.
  • Must be Indie status, not the genre. If the channel has over 100K subscribers, is backed by a label or marketing team then you really dont need the assistance of the IMSG. Have your label do it.
  • Only about music. If your channel is about Indie music AND something off-topic it cannot be used. IMSG does not sort out specific videos on a channel. We do not want off topic subjects in the aggregate.
  • No A.I. music. We support actual performers and songwriters. If you stream A.I. music we are not interested. If you are on the list and reported as an A.I. artist you will be removed from the list.
  • Must be an active channel. We would like to see at least 1 or 2 live streams a week, but at a bare minimum once a month. We can only monitor so many channels at a time, so the more active channels will be preferred.
  • Right to refuse. This is a curated list, we are the curators and we reserve the right to remove any channel for any reason at any time. Be good members of the community and their won't be a problem
  • To be considered for the list of channels please email either the channel URL or the Channel Handle (Example: @professor-boomer) to the email address at the bottom of the window. You will be notified once you are accepted or rejected. Also any suggestions for improvements are also welcomed.
Although not required, it would be nice if you added a link to this app in your descriptions.

App details:
The app is hosted on an AWS unix server running Python Flask for providing the Web interface. It is a very lightweight app using a SQLITE3 database. There is a second process that collects the public infromation of the channels every 30-60 minutes and updates the information in the database. Once streams are added to the database they are routinely checked for any changes in status every 5-10 minutes.
The Web interface is lightweight and does not interact with server once it is sent to the browser. To get fresh info you will need to manually refresh the page. Also the app only shows the info that the channel provides or the YouTube API provides. Bugs in both exist that IMSG cannot fix. Dont shoot the messenger.
